First prolonged fast - any extended tasters have some useful tips?

Extended fasters*, not tasters lol

The longest fast I’ve done is 68 hours, just under 3 days. I am currently attempting my first 7 day fast and was wondering if anyone had any tips or tricks?

The most difficult part of fasting for me is definitely the emotional hunger/cravings. I don’t mind the physical feeling of hunger but usually by the third day I feel as though I haven’t eaten in a month lol and that feeling of emptiness usually makes me cave.

The most successful extended fast I’ve had was when my wife was sick for a week and I had to do all the cooking for the family.

On top of that, I was getting my normal gallon of water a day in, electrolytes and salts.

I don’t know if shopping for and preparing the food had some sort of psychological benefit, but now that I think about it, I’m going to try it again.

I did a 7 day water fast couple years back. Cravimg’s went away after day 3. Day 4 5 and 6 felt great. By day 7, I had a couple moments of light-headedness and was ready to break the fast.

What helped me was eating clean 2 days prior to starting. I’ve read that eating keto a few days prior to starting an extended fast is also a good way to avoid the day 2/3 cravings.

Definitely read up on electrolytes. It is a MUST. Also, what worked for me, any time I had cravings, just a couple grains of coarse Himalayan salt on the tongue.

Keep busy too. Do some sort of project to keep your mind preoccupied. It’s amazing how many times you’ll find yourself being hungry because your bored.
