| | Water Fasting

First time trying IF and hoping to make a habit of it.

I’m 39M 170cm/5’7 and have been slowly approaching 80kg/176lbs.

Tomorrow will be day 3 for me, so far so good. My routine is as follows:

Morning- one cup black coffee, two teaspoons of psyllium husk with water and a NAC supplement.

Midday - Chinese tea two cups, a small snack ie protein based like a protein bar. Hold off as long as possible but don’t push it, whenever is comfortable.

Evening - normal meal making sure to eat slowly, no screen time and water.

No other drinks apart from tea, coffee, water maybe a dash of lemon water or something. Evening meals have consciously tried to lower sugar and carb content but just sticking to normal rotation of dinner meals.

Planning to experiment with easing off the caffeine intake but it’s main two purposes is to keep me focused at work and suppress hunger.

Two days in and I feel good, no brain fog, had already started regular psyllium husk intake so no issues with bowels and not headaches which I was surprised.

I’ve been previously eating mostly healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner but way too much sugar and carbs and food overall. Realised I was stuck in a doom spiral of trying to avoid brain fog by eating sugar/carbs and suffering from constant cravings.

Next week I hope to start a daily 15min exercise routine, ease in to begin with but increase intensity whenever it feels possible to do so, take rest days if my muscles are screaming at me.

Might reward myself with breakfast once a week on a Saturday or Sunday if I feel like it, but hoping that I can make a decent health improvement and habit in place before I turn 40 later this year.

If anyone has any advice or suggestions please let me know, thanks for all the inspiration and info in this sub hope soon I’ll have a good before/after pics to share too!

Answer

Hey, congrats on starting the journey. My only advice is don’t be too hard on yourself, start slow, and try to be mindful of all benefits, not just the weight loss (it helped me a lot at times when I was frustrated over not losing as much weight as I expected).

And don’t beat yourself up if you fail from time to time, you always have a chance to do better the next day.

*I use an app (Zero) to monitor my feasting periods, so I don’t have to think about it all the time, keeping my mind off food restriction helps me with managing cravings.
