First time Water Fasting-Goal 20 days

Hi! I started Jan 2. I’m on Day 3 today and this morning was rough. I’m 148 lbs and will be happy if I end this anywhere in the 120’s. (I’m 5’4”).

I’ve been taking some salt and a multivitamin but I think I need to add some potassium and magnesium too. Hoping it will get easier from here.

Congrats on your first 3 days! It gets easier after today, so don’t worry too much. That being said, listen to your body and don’t go for longer than it can. Look out for nausea, stomach pains, extreme dizziness, chest pains, or just plain ravenous hunger. If any persist for longer than an hour or so eat something low-carb and you can pick it back up when you feel better.

I’d advise you to drop the multivitamin as the binders in them can cause issues, and ABSOLUTELY grab some pink salt and nu/nosalt (Or whatever Potassium chloride you can find) to supplement with instead. Electrolytes are really the only concern when fasting, and once you go past 5 days (ish) you need to make sure you’re getting electrolytes or you’ll feel like death from dehydration. Any time you feel foggy, dizzy, headachey, etc, drink a big glass of water with Potassium Chloride and Pink Salt.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with going big on your first fast, but please be smart about it. The reason it’s advised to dip your toes in first is so you can get acclimated with what is normal and what isn’t. Be aware of your body and don’t let your pride kill you. Other than that, good luck and God speed!

Why do so many first timers go for massive amounts of time on their first fast?

You don’t need the multi, and it can cause you to vomit, you’re supposed to take those with food. I’d keep the other stuff too.
