Hey all, first time faster here. I’m a little over 33 hours into a 60 hour fast with nothing but snake juice (my plan currently is 60 hours but if I still feel ok I hope to go for 72 hours). I’m also a type 2 diabetic with hyper tension, hypothyroidism, and Crohn’s disease. Other than being a little jittery, I feel good.
Yesterday morning about 8 hours into my fast my blood sugar was 168. I took my usual dose of long acting insulin along with my daily medications and went about my day. Around lunch time my BS was 86 and in the evening 111. Still only snake juice. This morning I checked my BS and I’m back up to 165. I’ve taken my usual medication and morning dose of long acting insulin but I’m a little concerned that my BS is still so high. Is this normal? I read somewhere that prolonged fasting can cause insulin resistance. Is that possibly what is going on?
If any of you have any experience or knowledge about what’s going on I’d love to hear your thoughts or advice. TIA!
You need to work with your doctor to adjust your meds as you begin fasting and you should be checking many times per day for safety esp since you take insulin. This is not wise to just wing on your own.
Dr. Jason Fung has some vids on his YT re: fasting and diabetes, his book The Diabetes Code is also good. Here is one vid

Also, look up Dawn Effect re: morning BG.
For eating days, this book is written by a doc who runs a metabolic health clinic at Duke, easy to follow and really health changing https://www.amazon.com/End-Your-Carb-Confusion-Customize/dp/1628604298
Not sure about fasting causing Insulin resistance. But i thought long term over consumption of refined processed carbs is the culprit for insulin resistance. It may take time to cure that with food thats evolutionary good for you, after removing the foods that caused it in the first place. Were you fasting a lot leading up to being a diabetic?
