Foamy Urine

So I used to do 16:8 intermittent fasting for few years now. But this week I tried a my 1st 36 hrs fast. I had some spermatic cord infection in couple of months ago. After treatment it went away now I have no pain. But recently my urine frequency has increased so to rule out anything serious I did a full body checkup and urinalysis. Everything came back normal except the triglycerides levels. So decided to do a long fast. Yesterday I broke my fast and after breaking 4 hours later had a protein shake.

Today I saw that my urine was particularly foamy than usual. Is this could be because of fasting? I know that ketones may be present in Urine after prolonged fast but do they cause foam? I am confused because I did the test last week and there is nothing wrong with the kidneys.

Answer

Foamy urine is typically an indication of protein content. If you’ve done an intense workout it’s possible that you’ve got a case of rhabdomyolysis. If the color of your urine gets dark like soda, go to the hospital. Begin drinking water to over-hydrate, I was told to aim for a liter per hour, until the foaminess subsides and urine color returns to normal.

It might not be rhabdo but if it is you can damage your kidneys so be careful.
