Answer

So, this depends on the macronutrient balance of your meal, but generally, your body will work through simple carbohydrates within an hour or so, complex carbohydrates take a few hours longer, and your lipids will be preferentially ignored until carbohydrates are exhausted, usually. However, most humans have a reserve of a few days’ worth of hepatic glycogen before they begin to really rely on lipid metabolism.

Your body also won’t ‘use’ all of the energy at once, a lot of it will be stored for later use, which complicates answering your question.

Answer

So I would say it all depends. Depends do you want to feel fuller after every meal or still hungry? Are you bulking, maintaining or cutting? Also are you stationary, average amount of active (9-5, running errands, etc), or are you really active (playing other sports)? Your age, since your body doesn’t function as well as it did before. What I found out what really helps is experimenting to find out what works best for your body. You got this!
