For people who regularly fast or do some longer fasts, how do you combat brain fog?

I’m curious how people manage brain fog when fasting for a day or more, though not necessarily people who do very long extended fasts as I don’t think that’s something I personally want to work toward. How do you avoid the fast interfering with work or other obligations?

Answer

I do 72s and brain fog is the precise opposite of how I feel when fasting. It’s not self delusion either, it’s pronounced. Far less errors when compiling programming code as an example when fasted compared to after eating.

Answer

I only really ever get brain fog if I’ve had too many carbs or sugar prior to going into a longer fast. If I set myself up for success beforehand and go as low carb as possible and cut out the sugar then I have fantastic mental clarity and energy throughout my fast.

Just stick it out until after day 3. Brain fog literally is a thing of the past then and infact it feels like im on speed without any coffee. To get through that hurdle:

  1. Make sure you’re getting him salt, mag, and potassium daily. Game changer.
  2. Do keto a week before to avoid keto flu. Makes it exponentially easier
  3. If really not possible, drink a lot of coffee. It can kill hunger. If it doesnt, you can try to sleep most of the time. Theres nothing that can stave hunger off like sleeping!

Hope this helps!

Answer

Once your brain switches over to ketones, it gets really sharp. You will also feel more energetic and need less sleep.

Takes about 24 hours for me, then I have Lazer beam focus.

Only issue will be high intensity activity. So I only do easy workouts on fasting days.

After a week or two of IF, your body adjusts and you actually get focused and clear minded. It’s very very important to still get all your electrolytes in a calorie free form. I take Hi Lyte, magnesium glycinate and potassium, as well as a multi from New Chapter (can be taken on empty stomach).

I also take Lion’s Mane and NALT for cognition.
