Gained it all back and now trying to get back down

Back in 2014 I went through a break up and did IF back before it was an accepted way of losing weight. Back then everyone said it was bad for you and was called leangains. Long story short I went from 250 lbs to 195 lbs.

Fast forward to now I slowly put weight back on but always hovered around 205 -215 lbs. I recently had a kid and a lot of stress from work and my weight skyrocketed. I am now up to 237 lbs and have been trying to get back into IF with little success.

It seemed like when I did it when I was 23 the scale would drop almost a pound a day and now at 31 I am lucky to get .5 a week. I always seem to fall off after about a week of fasting and can’t seem to keep it going.

Am I struggling because of age or do I just need to buckle down and try harder. I do fine during the day but then at night I mess everything up after a stressful day. Any tips from anyone that maybe struggles like this?

I went through the same thing. Lost 50lbs. Lost my mom and gained it all back. I am now down 25 again with 25 more to go. I found the second time around to be easier to initially start the fasting but harder to maintain for the long haul. Because I had done it before, I had a slight over confidence and stalled midway. For me, it has to be strict no after dinner eating and little to no alcohol. Much of the time, the two go hand in hand. Calorie counting in the short term can also be eye opening. I don’t think it’s sustainable or enjoyable to do very long, but just doing it for a week can be very beneficial. I know in general how many calories are in things, but it’s amazing how they can add up. All the best.

The dietary reason people get overweight like that is from eating too much sugar and starch, period.

If you want to correct your problem then you need to eat less of those things.

For some people, it’s easy to just manage to have a little bit here and there, occasionally, socially, etc.

For most people with weight issues, the fact is that they’re unable to successfully moderate their intake of sugar and starch (not because of willpower, per se, but because sugar and starch act in your brain the exact same way cocaine and alcohol do – they’re extremely addictive!), so it ends up being easier for them in the long run to just completely abstain from sugar and starch altogether.

Take some time and be real with yourself, and find out if you’re a moderator or an abstainer.

Try easing into it with a 13:11 for a few weeks and then increasing the hours. Slow loss is a reality. I didn’t lose any for a few weeks. Guess it was my body doing a cleanup in prep. Now losing steadily 1 lb a week
