I used to order Dymatize Elite Whey Isolate in a natural chocolate flavor with minimal ingredients but it seems to be out of stock in a lot of areas.
I know this is a competitive space but does anyone have any recs other than Orgain or any of the off the shelf products that are clean and reputable?
Vegan perspective: From the research I’ve seen I can’t fault whey in terms of health and anabolism.
But neither can I fault soy isolate, it performs just as well according to this meta-analysis:
Bonus, it also has beneficial effects on your lipids! Some sources show benefits to bone mineral density, but they seem a little iffy so I’ll leave that out. Main benefit, especially with the economy like it is: Price!
Here are my three go-to’s. I try to look for minimal ingredients, low sodium, low sugar:
Muscle Feast Grass Fed Whey Protein Isolate
Dymatize 100 Protein Hydrolyzed
I don’t know if you have it where you live but I’m vegan and I use Nutreve protein powder in the fudge brownie flavor. It’s pretty good once you get used to the stevia taste and it also has 1.1 billion probiotic enzymes so that’s a nice plus
Look on https://labdoor.com/rankings/protein
They give breakdowns of certain attributes and do tests.
You can look at almost any on the market on there that take your fancy.
Legion Whey is the best I’ve ever had imo, but that’s preference and I do trust the brand, I don’t use it anymore because I’m UK based and the customs fees are too high, but the whey is such a good texture when mixed almost milky. Optimum nutrition has a good rep.
But truthfully supplements aren’t regulated like food so whatever you mean by “clean” can’t be guaranteed, avoid brands that list “blends”, pick a reputable brand with good reviews and who seem ethical and go for the one that best suits you.
Currently use Vivo Life & have recommended them to a fair few people. The ‘Perform’ one in particular tasted good and the ingredients are pretty solid.
Isn’t whey, but I personally never really got on well with that. Is a tad pricey, but there are discount codes floating about.
Lots of good products out there. Look for third party testing to ensure you get what they claim.
I use Leanfit from Costco. Myprotein.com has some decent products Legion Athletics is goodTrue nutrition allows you to customize ingredients, if you’re interested in that…
Legion athletics is the best overall in my opinion. Natural ingredients, third party tested, stevia instead of sucralose. Mike Mathew’s is a stand out guy too offering lots of free unbiased information on fitness and wellness.
The Organic Protein Company
https://theorganicproteincompany.co.uk/
The Organic Whey Protein Pure Unflavoured only has one ingredient (so no thickeners, sweeteners, additives, etc) and is 79g protein per 100g. The flavoured ones also contain very few ingredients and they’re all are traceable. It’s quite expensive but worth it for a nice product and a company that actually seems pretty decent (e.g. 25p donated to Compassion in World Farming for every pack).
From the website: “Only the best organic whole foods make it into our low temperature filtered organic whey protein blends. We publish independent test certificates for every batch and explain the where & how of all our responsibly sourced ingredients, so you can focus on your goals supported by a provably high quality organic whey protein powder.”
Whey is literal diary byproduct. It might be decent for muscle building but it’s bad for everything else. Use pea protein imo or maybe pumpkin but I will admit I don’t know much about the latter.
Whey protein is the Vaseline of the nutrition world. And Vaseline, aka petroleum waste, is dermatologist recommended so what does that tell you about the world we live in
