One of the reasons I end fasts is due to how distracting it is the deeper I am and I’ve noticed how sipping on coke zero acts as a good distraction. It’s been the difference between tapping out at the 30 hr mark at 11pm to me getting an easy 10 more hours till the next morning. Now I’m curious whether this could finally be what helps me beat the 100 hour mark that I have struggled to break my whole life
It made me crave sugar SO much worse several times when I tried. Will never drink diet soda during a fast again. I’ve drank diet Powerades for a (dirty) fast and that helped, but it’s definitely not a clean fast from what I’ve researched.
I drink Diet Coke and other 0 cal drinks when I fast - I know lots of people say you’re not supposed to but I feel like it helped me . The only issue is then I started to rely on 0 cal drinks to get through my fasts and can’t do it without them
Diet Coke helps me sustain long fasts and I’m down 118 lbs. It’s inconclusive as to whether or not it produces an insulin response, and really depends on your body. I’ve noticed when I cut back I have more rapid weight loss, but it really doesn’t stall me too bad. I do try to limit it though.
Diet soda and other 0 calorie drinks have zero effect on my weight loss. I have tried with and without (including a couple months where i drank nothing but water and black coffee).
For me it helps with the hardest part of my fasting, which is boredom …hunger was never the problem for me. I still drink water obviously, in fact my water consumption is the same as it was without… the soda and other drinks is just in addition.
For some people it can trigger hunger cravings, luckily it does not at all for me.
It perpetuates the desire for super sweet flavor. Plus it’s an unhealthy chemistry set you’re stuffing in your body. I personally get terrible headaches from aspertame. There have been more complaints about issues with aspertame than any other supposedly food item. I do like sucralose (Splenda) but stopped. If I want a soda, I drink the full sugar variety with my meal. A 2 liter orange crush was my last time. Had it for like 3 days in a row. All I wanted until it was gone. Haven’t really wanted any since. (I’m in maintenance but eat OMAD to full every day).
You still get an insulin response. So drinking it will negate a lot of the good effort you are putting in by abstaining from everything else. Research fasting clean. Try it for a month & after you adjust initially, fasting will be easier.
Honestly if anything I think it hurts. It might be mental but whenever I drink diet drinks I crave sweet food the next day. Like I said it could be mental, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a biological explanation to it.
Your body is built to survive, tricking it into thinking it’s consuming calories probably isn’t the best idea while fasting.
Zevia sodas are sweetened with Stevia only so they don’t stop autophagy and won’t cause thst nasty hard hunger aspartame, sucralose and ace K can trigger. I live on the Dr.Zevia when I want caffeine and Creamy Root Beer with no caffeine. Other flavors are good too. I also have a Soda Stream to make fizzy drinks. I use Stur drops made with Stevia to flavor it. A few shakes of Mortons Lite salt in each drink and I’m golden on electrolytes during my 4 day fasts.
I squirt a dash of lime juice into 1L of water that I carbonate at home with Sodastream.
Completely satisfies my desire for carbonated drinks, and now I enjoy this more than diet soda.
I can drink more and my stomach does not get agitated in the way that it does when I drink diet soda.
Diet soda has gotten me through so many fasts. I stopped once I realized the artificial sweeteners were likely the cause of my acne randomly getting worse, alas I stopped and lo and behold, it improved so I rarely drink diet soda nowadays and just stick with sparkling water. Helps that my go to drink was orange vanilla coke zero and considering it’s no longer available, there’s no temptation.
The artificial sweeteners, colourings and flavorings brake your fast so year your going longer without food but your not actually fasting properly. Your stomach is still producing enzymes to digest the drinks and you may potentially set off an insulin response.
If you need something carbonated then fizzy water along with plain water is your best option if you want to properly fast.
It’s not a fast if you are putting chemicals and dyes in your body. That’s a fake fast.
A fast is not simply about having zero calories but about purifying your body and avoiding consuming anything but pure water.
