Has Healbe Gobe (automatic calorie counrer) being debunked yet?

Hi there,

I would love it to be real, but when something seems too good to be true, it probably is!

I searched on Google and found (old) reviews from Engadget and BBC that kinda gave me some hope. But even after 7 years this device is not mainstream… I know the reason, but I would like to hear more from you people.

Thank you for your interest in GoBe!

Recent studies related to calorie counting technology have been conducted in the USA and China. We are ready to show you the results.

USA:

In the fall of 2018, the Institute of Nutrition at the University of California, Davis conducted a study of the function of tracking calories absorbed by GoBe2.

The scientists compared the accuracy of accounting for calorie consumption by the device and manual counting. 27 volunteers wore GoBe3 for 14 days under the supervision of specialists. To estimate the average daily calorie intake, the data were grouped into three-day intervals.

The average values of daily calorie intake obtained using GoBe2 and the manual method differed by only 10%. GoBe2 showed up to 90% accuracy on healthy adult volunteers.

China:

At the end of 2018, a pilot study of the GoBe2 calorie tracking function was conducted at the Red Cross Hospital in Guangzhou. The volunteers wore the device for two weeks. The data was grouped into three-day intervals to estimate the average daily calorie intake.

The average values of daily calorie intake obtained using GoBe2 and the results of manual calculation differed by only 16%.

Answer

It’s no different than any fitness/health tracker. It can measure your heart rate, activity level, maybe even run a color spectrometry on some shallow blood vessels. But until and unless one of these things plugs into your body where it can measure digestion, respiration, kidney and liver function, it’s just an expensive FitBit.
