I’m doing intermittent fasting. I am not familiar with fasting-mimicking diets. I would love to hear about it, what does a fasting-mimicking diet even look like? How does it compare to IF? Which one is recommended and why?
There is a sub (r/fmd )devoted to this. It is not the same as Keto.’It’s very low protein in order to trigger autophagy .. suggest you read up/listen to Valter Longo who designed it. I’ve done my own diy version. Definitely helped with some issuesInhad. Easier than straight fasting but I’d say it’s probably a trade off/ like 5 days at c550 calories to get benefits of 3 days regular fasting….
The fast mimicking diet was created by Dr Valter Longo, a major researcher on autophagy. He created it for people who have a hard time fasting, but want to experience the health benefits of autophagy. There are very specific and strict macros and calories, and, it sort of tricks your body into thinking you are fasting. If you look up Dr Mindy Pelz, she gives a lot of information on it.
I used to do protein sparing modified fast.
At one point Lyle McDonald’s Rapid Fat Loss book made the rounds on forums etc and it was a bit miserable, but it’s well prescribed and easy to follow.
But even Lyle doesn’t recommend it even in the book, instead opting for a more moderate approach.
Unlimited veggies, no fat, there are refeed and protein guidelines based on three BMI ranges
