Have I been doing IF without knowing its a thing?

Some quick background: a friend of mine noticed I rarely eat breakfast and lunch, and asked me “oh, so you do intermittent fasting?”, the answer was no, it’s just how my schedule tends to work out. But out of curiosity I looked into IF, and ended up here.

Have I been doing IF without knowing it’s a thing? Is there a way to refine my schedule to be more effective at weight loss? I hear about the 16:8 plan, and honestly an 8 hour window is way more than I’m currently doing. I’m not bothered by essentially eating one meal a day (not even a particularly large meal), and basically no snacking. I can also skip eating for an entire day without being too bothered. I’m a total newbie, so any advice is appreciated.

Answer

You are already fasting if you aren’t eating or drinking anything with calories until your one meal of the day. If what you are doing currently is not having any effect on your weight, you need to do longer fasts (I’d recommend 36 hours or longer if omad isn’t doing anything for you), change what you eat (for example, cut carbs or processed foods or whatever you decide is best for you), or change how much you eat. Increasing exercise might have a mild effect, but your diet is going to be the main driver of weight loss.
