I am sort of new to IF, about 1.5 months in. Trying to lose 5 to 10 lbs, after that just maintain. In my last couple hours of fasting, I feel really hungry and trying to figure out what I can consume to make those last couple hours bearable.
My trick is to deliberately do something during the last hours of my fast. I go on a walk, go get groceries, go to the gym, just something to keep your mind off the topic of eating.
Actually, going to the gym proved to be amazing for me, I was a bit afraid to become light headed because I was feeling so hungry but instead I feel so much more energetic going towards the end of my fast, sometimes nearly euphoric (something I otherwise never experience while doing sports, I think some people do). And after gym, I can often push my fast a bit longer and only have some sparkling water (that’s a really good tip to have some zero calorie flavored drink).
What also helps a little is knowing that the body doesn’t need food but is used to having it after a certain amount of time. It can use the energy it would use to digest food for other things, like repairing cells. This thought sometimes helps me to reframe the hunger feeling.
