Healthy instant oatmeal?

Hi friends! Curious if anyone has found an instant oatmeal that is healthy? I’m having a baby and starting to plan for a few weeks of leaning more heavily on instant/microwaveable items instead of the meal prep that I usually do.

I’m having trouble finding a brand that has all of the below:

Edit: thanks all for the suggestions! It sounds like I should just make my own little baggies with quick oats and some dried fruits/nuts and maybe some protein powder. I’ll do a test run this week.

Honestly, just make them from scratch. I do it every morning and it takes like 5 minutes top + maybe 1-2minutes extra when I want my frozen strawberries to be soft.

It’s literally mixing oats with hot water, waiting 2 minutes, cutting in a banana (or what ever fruit you want), adding some flax seeds, some frozen berries, and some milk for creaminess. Cook for 5 minutes and it’s done.

And after cooking adding some vanilla protein powder dissolved in some milk makes this the most tasty breakfast I can imagine. If fills you up, is quick, rather cheap, and definitely something we can call “healthy”.

You would be surprised how fast regular rolled oats cook, especially if you dont put a lot of water. less than 5 minutes. and if you just pour some almond milk over dry oats at night, the next morning is as instant as taking it out of the fridge

Answer

I always use the microwave when making my oats. Microwave oats with water for 2 minutes. Then everything on top. Add protein powder if you’d like. And adjust liquid to your liking.

The healthiest instant oatmeal I’ve found is just plain old jane regular. Omce they start adding things they have to make it taste good, so it’s not going to be that great

Rolled oats don’t really take long to make tho and you can prep and portion out all your additions so when it comes time to make them, it’s super quick

Answer

rx oats has low sugar compared most other brands(the maple packets anyways, 10g). I like it cause the protein comes from eggs whites and almonds instead of whey. has dates too. Earnest eats protein oats is another good one that has a great mix of grains(quinoa, puffed amarath, oats), but it has slightly more sugar and the protein comes from grass fed whey. Really like the coconut and apple.

Both are overpriced when bought in cups. I can only justify buying the 30 count of rx maple packets atm. Just wish they were organic!

edit: definitely agree with buying plain and making your own. unfortunately, I always manage to constipate myself doing this. Think I make the portions too large.

Answer

I buy organic unstabilised oats (I like the extra fat which helps to keep me full) and soak them in milk/water overnight and then microwave the next morning. The soaking softens it all up and makes the cooking super quick.

I top with a tablespoon of peanut butter and whatever fruit, seeds, or nuts I have on hand.

Breakfast is quick, healthy and keeps me going for hours.

I use my tiny rice cooker, done in ten minutes, same 1 cup oats to 2 cups of water. You can put raisins in it or add a little fruit juice. I have cooked all types of oats- rolled, cut and whole groats- I add a quarter of a cup of water for the denser grains.

Answer

I’d recommend just buying

1 unflavoured whey protein

2 organic rolled oats

3 a bag of raising and Coconut shavings (or desiccated).

You’ll save money and get better quality. Other grains don’t cook the same speed as oats do, so it’s probably just better and easier to stick to just oats. However two things you can do to spice up your oats in texture department:

Can always try making overnight oats?

Can always buy a bag of jumbo oats to mix in, they have a thicker bite.

Answer

I don’t eat oats because of immune cross reactions, but when I did I would add a nut butter, flax and chia seeds. I just found some almond nut powder which has 45kcals and like 7g protein

I have seen some people mix in egg whites for their instant oats.

Answer

It’s pretty fast to make oats in a pot as others have said. You could also make overnight oats in a jar at night and just warm them up in the morning. However, if you really want instant packet oatmeal, the aldi near me has one that’s plain, so just oats.

Answer

Coach’s Oats from Costco. Just 4 minutes to microwave. I usually mix in frozen fruit, peanut butter, chia/hemp seeds, and add a little milk after cooking. Very healthy, easy, cheap source of nutrients.
