Heart Palpitations on Snake Juice fast (M,6’1,23)

So I’ve been doing weekly 4 day fasts M-F and breaking it Friday afternoon since May 18th. Keto snacks on eating days not exceeding 1200 cal. Standing at the office and will ride my motorcycle to the beach and walk every other day for 1-2 hrs. SW was 315 and I was 259 as of this morning, so I’ve had some good progress. Since yesterday I’ve had heart palpitations throughout the day, mind you yesterday was an eating day. Can anybody provide some insight? I’m getting enough salt in so it’s not that. Thank you in advance.

Answer

most rapid tests will illustrate your electrolytes.

potassium, magnesium and sodium are the top 3. being low in any of those will cause racing heart, anxiety, muscle twitching/spasms.

imho SJ does not have enough in proper ratios for everyone.

Answer

I faced the same and had to reduce my fasting period. Once I ate normally they subsided on their own. This is one reason why I stopped doing longer fasts, am yet to find a solution to the heart palpitations, I was consuming snake juice as well.

Answer

Definitely go to the doctor. I’d also recommend in the meantime, shorten or break up your fasts, and make sure you’re eating a variety of foods on your refeed days. Might be a good idea to switch to 48 hour fasts with a 48 hour refeed period following that, and incorporate a variety of fruits & veggies (eat the rainbow), and a multivitamin as well. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice guys. I’m pretty anti-doctor but if you guys are tellin me to go to urgent care I may do so. Also, I go to the beach and walk 2-3 times a week for a couple hours at a time. Wouldn’t this be enough vitamin D?

Answer

It may also be a vitamin deficiency. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium. A lack in vitamin D could cause an imbalance in calcium and magnesium in the body causing heart palpitations. Try to get out more and sun bathe responsibly. I personally try to get out and take vitamin B,C and D (all water soluble vitamins meaning they don’t store well in the body so you have to constantly consume them)

Answer

From my experience you are either eating too fast, or eating waaaaaay to much fat initially after your fast(if your on keto). When you break your fast especially one that long it’s a little harder for your body to digest stuff as your digestion goes on “rest mode” essentially. My recommendation would be to have a small 2-4 oz piece of protein first at then end of your fast and wait about an hour or two then have your meal. Also remember the old adage “drink your food and chew your water” chew the hell out of your food till it’s essentially mush it will help out your digestive system a whole lot

Answer

go to urgent care like normal and answer the questions they ask. don’t offer any information more than they ask about bc I always think about the old saying “if you go to a surgeon, you’ll eventually have surgery.”

Answer

I should have clarified this in the post. I am doing 1/2 t spoon no salt, 1/4 t spoon pink salt and 1/2 t spoon baking soda per 1l snake juice. Drinking 2L daily sometimes even more depending on activity volume.

Answer

and what about potassium and magnesium? and what is “enuff salt” if you are active you need more. like the other side of 5grams min.also it’s not just salt you need water too salt chases water.sounds like an electrolyte issue to me.
