Help, needing advice to loose weight If on antidepressant.

I have been doing If for almost two weeks now and I think I may have actually gained weight (I’ll be able to tell once my period ends) with citalopram, my weight went up from 137lbs to 157, I just weighed myself today after IF for about two weeks and I’m at 160. This is really upsetting as I’ve never been this weight in my life but I need the medication for my mental health as my life was unbearable before it.

Would really help to hear some success stories of people on medication like mine and what you would eat. Thanks!

I take lexapro / Escitalopram 10mg in the mornings and have been able to lose weight. Did you check your calorie intake? You might be eating too much, but do not reduce your intake before checking. Calculate your TDEE and substract ~400 calories for a slow-ish weight loss

Answer

I’m on venlafaxin which made me gain a lot of weight. I was told it would be difficult to lose weight on it. I started IF 16:8 around January first and I’ve lost 10kg so far. Aside from the weight, the change has helped me sleep better and have more energy throughout the day. It’s hugely beneficial for me to have structure with an eating schedule, when my mental health causes a lot of chaos in my head. All of these benefits from fasting is what’ll make me want to continue following this routine, even if the weight loss slows down. I’m also doing low carbs, not quite keto, but trying to focus on fat, fiber and protein.
