Here’s a question- do you avoid fasting when you’ve got a cold or the flu?

I was all set to do a 24 hour today, but during the night I came down with something. My normal sickness protocol is to take vitamin c every few hours and eat soup, just wondering who’s experimented with fasting while ill, and what they’ve found for themselves.

Answer

No, I stop if I am sick. I just had a brutal flu and for that week, I ate when I could, since I was down in bed for like 20+ hours. Was up for the toilet, shower and to get food. Being kind to yourself and recovering as quickly as possible is more important. when I was physically and mentally healthy I jumped straight back to IF.

Thanks guys! I found a good video from DeLauer about this. I guess there’s debate about whether you have a bacterial infection or a virus. Bacteria is glucose dependent so you can starve it out, but the issue is we usually don’t know exactly what we have, so normal feeding day I guess. Thanks for feedback and well wishes.

I got sick a few weeks back in Nov and fasted 48 hours. I was a mess at the end of it but felt really great going forward. Not sure I’d do it again. If you do, be careful what you break your fast on. I think that was my big mistake. I should have broke it with yogurt or broth. Not what I had.

I got sick for three-four days recently. My head was absolutely killing me and I had a fever, nonstop. I’m not a fan of taking pills, I really hate them, so I just let my body do its job and fight the virus on its own until I eventually stopped being sick. During those full 3-4 days I fasted like I normally do: 20+ hrs a day of fasting.

But, I don’t think this could be doable for everyone. I joke around that I’m kinda half immortal cause I really have great immunity and skills to healing on my own, others can’t say the same. So really it depends on the status of your body and how healthy you are overall, I think.
