Hi! can someone help explain what is happening and what i should do?

I’m currently doing IF, I typically do 20-24 hr fasts and eat most of my food in a short window of time earlier in the day. (Yes it’s fine for me and not really looking to change it).

Anyway sometimes when I wake up after starting a fast the evening/afternoon prior, I feel nauseous, shaky and my heart rate increases. If I move too much or too fast I will throw up or get very close to it. I thought this was due to low blood sugar, but every time I try to find information on this, the only information I can find about low blood sugar is for diabetics, or it’s just something saying “hmm if you have these symptoms maybe eat something” which are both unhelpful.

If I wake up feeling this way, is it not low blood sugar? What is happening if it’s not low blood sugar? Multiple sources said that non diabetics don’t really get low blood sugar. Also, can I make it go away without breaking my fast?

Usually I start to feel a little bit better after a few hours but even at only 20 hours in I still get too weak to do anything until I break the fast.

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

You may want to consult a medical professional about this. I have fasted for many years and never experienced precisely what you describe.

I personally would look for an answer in the things you are eating. Did you recently change what you eat, or cut out certain foods? (It is possible to tolerate food A+B perfectly, but react with intolerance to food A when eaten alone.)

I guess lack of electrolytes could play a role. Another possibly is lack of vitamin/mineral.

What’s you’re coffee intake like? What did it used to be like?

Caffeine withdrawal symptoms can be INTENSE. In college I drank a pot+ a day…. too much, then a couple time throughout the year would just not make a pot or run out or whatever and have the worst withdrawal symptoms. No headache, these hit much faster than that.

Could be electrolyte related or vitamin related or??? Definitely a blood work situation here.
