High cortisol/fat loss

Hi guys! I鈥檝e got really high cortisol due to a number of factors. My doctor recommended fasting to lose the weight. Been doing it for about a month but it鈥檚 very slow, 2.5kg in a month. Just wondering is anyone else is trying to combat high cortisol also and what you did to bring it down 馃槉

Answer

That鈥檚 gotta suck. Without knowing your condition and circumstances, could meditation possibly help? I鈥檓 seeing it from the view of reducing stress which may reduce your cortisol levels. Just a thought :)

Someone already mentioned this but 2.5kg in a month is great progress! I鈥檓 in the US and aiming to lose about a pound a week which is only 4lbs a month and 2.5kg is about 5lbs. It also depends a lot on your current weight, height & age though. People that weigh a lot more/are much farther from their goal weight are going to lose weight very fast in the beginning if they are drastically cutting calories. Its all circumstancial.

I actually have PTSD from a truamatic childhood/upbringing unfortunately. And it means my cortisol levels as a kid were insanely high all the time from the chronic stress I experienced. Its also why I have a TON more belly fat than most people my height and weight. I just found out recently that constantly high cortisol levels can cause your body to store a lot more belly fat than usual. I鈥檓 26F and I鈥檝e had a lot of belly fat since I was like 13 and had no idea why I held most of my weight in my stomach until I learned about cortisol and its effects

It really sucks but I just try my best to avoid any triggers even though it can be hard some days. But I鈥檝e also found that when I鈥檓 actively doing IF my mental has been much better and I feel way better about myself. I don鈥檛 tend to spiral into emotional breakdowns nearly as much too which helps a lot. One of the things I listen to to keep me calm and make me feel relaxed is lofi hip hop radio on YouTube or there鈥檚 other videos that mimic the sound of like a crackling fireplace and thunderstorm outside. I light a candle, throw those on while I browse the internet or do work and it makes me feel so much calmer and keeps my brain from going into overdrive.
