Would it be healthy for someone who has a history of binge eating/ compulsive eating to start IF? if so, what do you recommend they start at?? I have done IF in the past and failed but I started immediately at fasting for 20 hrs with a 4 hour window… and I binged ofc . I have been scared to start, but I have been coming on this page daily for weight loss inspiration & I want to implement IF into my weight loss journey. All y’all r so inspiring:,) I downloaded the zero app, just would like advice for where to start!
I like to do OMAD, but started doing 16/8. I would recommend taking baby steps. For example:
Make sure you drink plenty of water and coffee/tea is an awesome appetite suppressant, just make sure you drink it without adding calories.
IF can be triggering for someone with binge eating disorder because of the shortened eating window — as you experienced. I would strongly recommend consulting with your doctor and/or therapist before starting IF, to get support in achieving your weight loss goals safely. I’m not saying you can’t do IF — I don’t know enough to say that! Just that you’ll want to be careful to avoid worsening your eating disorder.
Intermittent fasting saved me, after struggling with SEVERE binge eating, compulsive eating, secret eating, constant obsession/preoccupation with food and eating for as long as I can remember. I’d tried it all through the years, but as an adult never would let myself consider IF because I assumed it would trigger me and end up doing more harm than good. I’ll save you the hundred pages I could type out about this and will just say: IF saved me. I finally feel like a normal person, and finally have a HEALTHY relationship with food/eating, which I honestly did not ever think was possible. I know you said IF has led to binging for you in the past though, so I understand that everyone is different, even if their history with EDs is similar. Just wanted to share my experience, because it’s been almost 8 months and it still blows my mind that I’m capable of experiencing food freedom. Best of luck ♥️
Howdy! I say go full on OMAD if you’re good at a big change. It gets the “but I want fooooooooooooooood” feeling out of the way in about a week. And omg read “Brain over binge” if you haven’t already. Changed my life
