How do you avoid getting a low blood sugar when fasting for extended periods (i.e. 24+ hours)?

I have been intermittent fasting using the 16:8, 18:6, and 20:4 method consistently for some time. I find that if I fast for longer than 20 hours I get low blood sugars (cold sweats, dizziness, head rush/vision goes black when I stand up, etc). I’d love to fast for longer but need to find a way to manage the low blood sugars. Thank you for your help!!

Answer

Have you actually tested your blood sugar? I healthy person not on medicine to lower blood sugar isn’t likely to have low enough blood sugar on a fast of that length to cause any symptoms at all. What you are describing is more likely to be low electrolytes. Eat some salt or get some trace minerals for your water.

Answer

what meds r u on? i take metformin. when i fast i dont take any metformin for that day.

or i take it just before i break the fast. for eg. if i break my fast in the evening, then i don’t take my morning met.
