How do you deal with the first hours of a fast?

I absolutely despise the feeling of being full knowing the hunger is going to set in soon. Its like a subdued feeling of impending doom. After ~8 hours I find fasting pretty easy. Any tips on how to deal with this?

Answer

For me, I look at the feeling of hunger kinda the same as exercising: you feel it because it’s doing something! I use that as mental motivation to push through. Results take effort, and not eating is the easiest part!

Answer

I think of my fasting hours as my healing hours. I used to see fasting as suffering or sort of martyrdom, but then I flipped it around when I realized I’m doing it to let me body rest and heal from all the dumbass stuff I’ve done to it.

Answer

Sleep through it. Begin your fasts after dinner. I like to start my fasts after lunch because my witching hour is about 18 hours in. Sleeping through the first part, then interrupting the craving cycle with the part of the day I’m never hungry (mornings) gets me over that hump.

Answer

Sleep is an easy cheat mode play.

Black coffee and tea followed by liters of ice water also help.

Staying busy and active are great ways too. I’m not sure about you but eating, especially when on one meal a day makes me a bit lazy. Having something to do and not wanting to suffer from any lethargy is good motivation to keep the fork down .

Check out some videos that break down what’s happening in your body hour to hour. Whenever I do an extended fast I always watch Dr.Pradip Jamnadas talk called Fasting for Survival. He explains everything so well and it’s incredibly motivating!
