This recipe I found online makes 10 servings, and lists the calories as 252 kcal ( link to recipe )
When I convert kcal to cal, that’s 252000 calories?? That can’t possibly be right, even if that’s the calories for the entire dish.
What am I missing?
You can try a recipe calculator: https://www.verywellfit.com/recipe-nutrition-analyzer-4157076
I use MyFitness Pal to track my daily calories. It has a recipe builder that lets you add ingredients manually or import a recipe from a website by copying its link.
Kcals is the same as the calories used on nutrition labels. Judging by the looks of this recipe, I would assume the 252 calories listed is for an individual serving. Given the recipe states there are 10 servings total it would 252 calories x 10 servings = 2,520 total calories for the casserole
Though I don’t see how this is possible. A quick Googling of the included ingredients leads me to believe the true amount may be higher than this.
For instance, according to Google one pound of baked bacon alone is almost 2,500 calories
When we talk about calories we are really talking about kilo calories (=kcal). Kilo is decimal unit prefix that means 1000. So 1000 cal = 1 kcal and that 1 kcal is what we colloquially say is a calorie.
