How do you guys do 72-hour fasts while working?

Hey Everyone,

How do you guys manage to do 72-hour fasts, work your typical 8-hour shift, and work out? I’m looking to get back on track, but recently accepted an offer that’ll require me to be in-office. Additionally, the gym is out of the question right now due to my recovery from a dislocated left elbow (on top of my 2 herniated discs).

I used to be able to do 7-day fasts without an issue, but it turned to be problematic to get back onto the routine due to several medical and personal setbacks in my life. I’m not sure whether the GW is appropriate either. I used to be at the gym, and play two sports, now I’m unable to due to the doctor’s recommendation.

Routine I guess for me

I always start Sunday afternoon and then brake 3 days later with a boiled egg and some soup.

I’m a teacher and father of 2 and Fasting at work isn’t a problem, I also work out Monday afternoon but not again until after I’ve eaten.

That’s it, no magical powder just hard graft

Good luck

My personal experience is that 72 hours (3 days) are harder than extended fasts. Maybe your experience is different, but it takes me 2 to 3 days just to get into ketosis. And those first 3 to 5 days are the hardest. After that, it’s usually smooth and steady (as long as I’m getting enough water and electrolytes).

I’m currently 7 days into a 14 day fast (though I may go for 21, if I’m up for it…) Staying hydrated and getting plenty of electrolytes is key. As for exercise, I bike to/from work (7 - 8mi round trip).

I don’t go as fast or as hard. Definitely keep exercise light. Walking counts as exercise. Is that an acceptable form of exercise, given your recent injuries? (Sorry to hear about that, btw.)

As for GW, the Body Mass Index (BMI) says 140 to 190 is a “healthy” weight range for you, but you’ll have to be the judge of that when you get there.

Im on 14 hr of my water fast and I’m at work and honestly, the thought that I’m not going to have lunch is already pissing me off. Are you hanging in there?? I’m trying to stay with you on this, my dude

I would double check your goal weight. At 6’1” I’ve seen the healthy range between 166 and 202. There’s a range for a reason. Last time I check my BF%, I had 177.3 lbs of lean mass. So that’s almost 180 with zero BF. My first goal is to get into a healthy range at under 200, then I can make a healthy reassessment.
