Answer

I cook all the meals for the household and do all the grocery shopping, so it comes down to a matter of willpower sometimes.

Not the best plan, admittedly. I try to remember my “why” (I have some gut issues- malabsorption caused by damaged GI, causing shitty nutrition status, joint and spinal degradation, etc)- it’s not just a matter of “I want to eat this thing right now”. It’s a matter of “I want my body to feel better”. “I want to wake up without hurting.” “I want my life back.”

Having a visual representation (visual metrics are proven motivators) is also a great help if you can put it/keep it somewhere accessible.

The fundamental truth here is that in order to achieve different results from those around you, you’re going to have to lead a life that looks different than theirs. True with fasting, true with everything. And that means social tension and awkwardness from time to time.

Start by deciding whether fasting is more or less important to you than not being weird or disruptive. If it’s more important, the answers become plentiful, starting with simply informing everybody else that you’re not eating on a certain day.

Answer

It is hard to do it but ultimately you need to find a why. Motivation fails you at times but discipline is what picks up the slack.

So why are you fasting? Like is it for your health, your kids?

Aside from that I try to leave the room if someone is eating something I want. Luckily a lot of the foods I used to eat I’ve gotten away from over the years

Answer

I try to sleep 12 hours per day while fasting. After that, lots of diet coke to get through the day.

I was a picky eater growing up and never outgrew it. But after a couple days of fasting everything starts looking good. Even stuff I normally wouldn’t eat. I enjoy thinking about how amazing its gonna taste when I finally get that meatloaf in a couple days. But when everyone else is dining on meatloaf today, I am having bodyfat for dinner.

Sadly when I finally refeed, it is anticlimactic. Quenching that food lust is never as good as I imagined it would be. Knowing that makes it easier to watch my family strap on the feed bag
