How do you sleep on multiple day fasts?

The only time I ever went longer than 24 hours, I basically couldn’t sleep, due to too much mental energy. I tried taking melatonin and that made it worse. Anyone else know how to deal with this while starting a week long fast?

I sleep very soundly and wake up refreshed and ready to go. That is, once I eventually fall asleep! 😂

Seriously tho, I wear orange wrap around safety glasses once the sun goes down (helps to block blue light from screens and light bulbs). I have an smart LED light bulb that can change color ranges and brightness, so after the sun goes down I dim it and make it more orangy. And I also like to do a ten minute meditation before bed to just help relax. Lastly, I sleep in a dark and quiet room that’s a little on the cooler side.

All that being said, I still toss and turn a bit before I fall asleep. But when I’m out, it’s quality sleep. And even if I only get 5 hours I still wake up feeling good.

How do I sleep on multiple day fasts? Badly.

Disclaimer: I have insomnia even when I’m not fasting and I already block blue light after sunset and take magnesium at night year round. When fasting has driven my insomnia into high gear I’ve tried melatonin, exercise, guided sleep meditation, white noise, and putting hot socks on my feet. Nothing so far has made sleeping any easier. The one thing I can say is when I get a mere two hours of sleep one night, *normally* the next night I can finally fall asleep at a reasonable hour.

I haven’t tried a cold shower before bed, yet. I might experiment with that on my next fast.
