I don’t understand how this has any calories when it’s pure fiber. Any advice? Sometimes i make a drink with it (3tbsp) but on cronometer it tells me the 3tbsp of psyllium husk is somehow 54 calories, but its all fiber? Thanks
It may have changed since I heard this, but the measure of calories doesn’t always (or maybe often) agree with the calories your body can uptake. In the lab where they measure, all calories are measured, even the ones your body cannot access due to them being locked in cellulose. This results in something high in fibre being counted as higher in calories than you can actually get from it.
there are two variants of fiber, soluble fiber and insoluble fiber. psyllium husk is a soluble fiber, which actually has 2kcal/gram in comparison to insoluble fiber which is essentially 0kcal/gram! :-)
