My coaches/peers have always pushed the importance of electrolytes. Drinks like Pedialyte are great for hydration but Im unaware of the sience behind that. Would drinking Pedialyte everyday be too much?
Those drinks should only really be consumed after intense training or activity. If you drink enough water and a fairly balanced diet you should never need them. Especially brands like Gatorade that contain a lot of excess sugar. The term electrolytes is a highly marketed term to confuse people but all it is are minerals such as sodium, potassium, magnesium, etc.. to help the body transfer energy.
