How long can I go without fasting salts?

Like the title implies, I don’t have any fasting salts and I would like to know how long I can feasibly fast before I would need to take them.

Answer

I’ve never used fasting salts. My longest fast is 11 days.

I’m reading a fasting book from the 1950s. There’s plenty of testimonials from people water fasting for 21-40 days without any supplements/salts.

Why does this subreddit make it seem impossible to fast without these?

Answer

A lot longer than it would take you to go to Wal-Mart and pick a can of No-salt (potassium, grocery section) and Magnesium pills (supplement section). I’m assuming you have table salt.

Some people seem to need them sooner than others (with people that need them in the first few days it is probably a placebo effect but let’s leave that alone for now). How long are you fasting for?

Answer

Until the end of your life! It might be the last fast you’ll have to take…I really think one could die by falling unconscious on a knife, so get the salts atleast thinking of that bro…it doesn’t have any negative issue anyway so…all the best

Answer

I’d say 72 hours max. Table salt will give partial benefit if needed but likely not needed in that time period. If you’re really too lazy to get any at a grocery store —- and again i would only use them for 72+ hour fasts —- cook up 12 oz of kale chips in an air fryer. They contain a lot of magnesium and minerals. Ya it’ll break the fast for a bit but it’s like 50 calories and mostly fiber

Answer

Depends on your physical activity. If you’re just lying in bed doing jack s* but getting up to go to the bathroom and get water I’ve heard of clinics that do fasting as therapy without salts that have gone 21 days. If you have a regular physical labor job or are doing any kind of vigorous exercise I would say only 3 to 4 days. I did an almost 5-day one about a month ago well attempting P90X at the same time and didn’t start paying attention to my salts until late in day 3 and definitely didn’t take enough. Going into the end of day four felt like I had tetanus for how bad I was cramping all over my body.

Answer

I’ve been salting 5 gram/ 4 litres lo-salt (50% Sodium and 50% Potassium) starting day one on my past 3 fasts. It makes it so much easier. I’ve been aiming for 5 day fasts and made 6 days on all three. Currently on fast 4 and loving it.

Answer

If you aren’t going over a few days, you don’t need anything special. Maybe just try to take a multivitamin if you have them? You can always drink a smartwater, sugar free sports drink, or pickle juice if you get cramps or “hangover” type symptoms. I hear sea salt/kosher salt water can help too. Personally I like to keep these handy for maximum comfort, but you can just power through, and if you really need to, you can just break your fast and eat something healthy.
