How long does it take to lose 30lbs?

I’m a 36 year old male, 5’11”, starting the year at 220 lbs. I started only eating during daylight, so I end up fasting around 16 hours. I’m also making it a point to average 10,000+ steps a day.

I’m down 6 lbs in 20 days which feels great. I have a history of failed weight loss initiatives, but this one feels more sustainable because the rules are simple. This subreddit is also very motivating.

To manage my expectations, how long do you think it would take to lose 30 lbs? I’m thinking around 4-5 months. Would love your thoughts!

How longs a piece of string? Just got to keep going. Hold on to that you’re doing the right things, realise that it’s not going to happen as quickly as you’d like but keep walking towards where you want to be. Good luck.

I lost 10kg (22 lbs) in the first two months of IF, then I gained 2kg over christmas. Now it is going down again but slower. I dont have a schedule. For me it is more about starting a good trend for my body so I can enjoy life even when I retire.

4-5 months sounds plausible, it goes faster in the beginning. Good luck!

I had 24lb to lose. In 17 weeks (3 mo 3 wks) I’ve lost 18lb (6 to go). I lost 9lb the first month, 5lb the 2nd, 3lb the 3rd. I’m on track for 3-4lb this month. So it’ll probably take me 5 months to hit my target weight.

I have 6lb less than you that I want to lose, but I have been sedentary and I’m a woman (we have more trouble losing weight), so you may well lose weight faster and lose 30lb in 5 months.

You’ll see better results if you focus on the process. You’ll see results through consistency over time. The actual time will be different for everyone. As you have a history of failed attempts you may benefit from focusing on addressing the underlying issues that are preventing you from seeing lasting results.

Weight loss isn’t linear and for most people consistently losing a pound a week is not realistic. Focus on your behaviors, build good habits that you can sustain and you’ll see the results you want.
