Hey friends. I was just wondering how low does your insulin drop to when you are fasting? I.e. what’s your fasting insulin?
Most people will have no way of knowing. There is no home test for insulin, and doctors don’t test fasting insulin levels as a regular thing — usually only if you have diabetes or some other kind of insulin disorder.
Even if you knew the number, it’s hard to say what it really means. The “normal” range seems to be anywhere from 2 to 25 mIU/L, but what (if anything) happens differently in your body at 2 vs. 20? An endocrinologist would know; the rest of us don’t.
With blood sugar, it’s pretty obvious — get much below 60 mg/dL and you start feeling weak, dizzy, and sick. But with insulin it’s less obvious.
If I do my part 5 am readings are around mid to upper 60’s. Be mindful that morning readings can be deceiving. Stress, lack of good sleep and “dawn effect” can alter the readings too. It’s advised to check the levels an hour after being awake.
