How many days eating at maintenance to 'reset' metabolism?

I’ve been fasting since last year, mostly adf. Took a few months off, then started back up last november. I’ve lost a lot of weight, but I hit a plateau and can’t seem to move the scale the last month and a half. I’ve been doing rolling 48’s with some 72’s sprinkled in, and the last week I switched to adf + omad. Nothing. I still have lots of weight to lose, I’m nowhere close to goal.

So today I’m eating at maintenance, and I’ll continue for a few days. I’m so accustomed to fasting that I don’t feel comfortable eating every day now, and would like to get back to fasting asap. How many days should I eat at maintenance? Is 3 enough? Anyone else successfully fix their plateau by doing this?

Appreciate any insight.

Answer

I’ve heard the general rule of thumb when it comes to diets is 8 week of diet and 2 weeks of maintenance.

That’s what I’ve mostly been following and haven’t had any issues with a stalls. I recently started mixing in 88 hour fasting more for the health benefits but I suspect it may take a bit longer to reset from fasting than it does from just a normal daily caloric restriction. No data to back that up yet though. It’s a little harder to track because fasting bounces around a bit more during recovery.
