I read this article regarding protein and here Dr Fung says that eating less protein helps with preventing loose skin which is desirable for me, but I have a couple questions here.
He says: “For a standard 70-kg male this is 52.5 g/day. Remember this is for absolutely healthy adults, not gaining or losing weight and the amount needed to cover the average amino acid losses are only 42 g/day (0.6g/kg/day). Remember, that if you want to lose weight, you should be eating less protein so that you can break some down.”, but how much less should I be eating? I currently weigh 216 lbs (I’ve lost almost 50 since january) at 6 foot 2 and I’m a male.
I currently do alternate day fasting where I eat about 3000 calories every other day, in that case, should i be counting average protein intake or daily? So is it okay to eat twice as much as recommended if your average is good?
I deliver newspapers six days a week which is very demanding physically (a lot of stair-climbing and walking) so I essentially do long periods of cardio six days a week, does this affect my protein needs? I don’t weight lift.
I don’t believe the science is out there on the protein/fasting/loose skin thing.
People on the Zero Carb (meat only) diet seem to do very well, and they only eat protein and fat. Some people prefer less fat, and others prefer more. It seems like every body will tell the person how much protein it wants over a period of time on the diet.
I think loose skin has more to do with length of fasting, with longer fasts reducing the likelihood of loose skin. How old you are matters too, as does genetics.
The body doesn’t store excess protein. whatever protein isn’t used for tissue repair soon after eating is converted to glucagon or fats. Eating extra protein doesn’t lead to high levels of protein circulating in the blood for days and days.
If you want to do ADF but are worried about loose skin, maybe mix in a 5 day fast every month or so as you go along.
