How much tuna actually is too much (wrt mercury)?

And if the mercury actually is a serious concern, what are the best replacements for tuna steaks and canned tuna? [sorry if this is vague but i don’t want to break the personal context rule]

Some brands of tuna screen for mercury, so you could look for that kind to minimize exposure.

Answer

This depends how much you are eating. lead, cadmium, arsenic, mercury, in sardines or other types of fish of that type can be a serious problem over the long term. Tuna can be screened but it is a totally different type of animal, compared to goats, sheep, pigs, cattle, etc. Tuna is a predator fish obviously.. The thing about mercury levels, is it’s a slow decline and it starts with neurological symptoms that can resemble actually nerve dysfunction or mood disorders, anxiety, mania, insomnia, depression, etc. The body purges these metals in extended periods of fasting or dieting and it’s not a fun time. Have tuna sporadically like 3 cans a week max, but your much better getting your protein from somewhere else. Egg whites, pork, protein powder, chicken.
