I guess it depends on the brand, but it would be about 60g of actual protein, and the amount of powder it would be would be 90g. I wasn’t going to take that much very often, probably just once or twice a week.
It’s protein. Use as much as you need. Ideally you get most from whole food. I have 2 whey/casein blend shakes a day. A little less than half of my protein is from supplements. It’s not ideal, but it’s still high quality protein.
whey protein is the most bioavailable source of protein you can ingest. its amino acid complex and digestibility (assuming you do not have an allergy), is superior to just about anything.
there is nothing wrong with having a shake or two a day…however whole foods are probably best in the long term. having 2 servings (roughly 60g) of whey a day will not have negative effects and more than likely benefit you compared to if you didn’t take it.
I have 4-6 scoops a day of PEScience- it’s just so good I never get sick of it, and crave it like ice cream. Anyways each scoop is 32g, so that’s what 120-180g a day. No negative side effects or anything on my end. Really just helps me hold lean tissue a lot easier
Since this is r/nutrition, I’m gonna say I don’t trust whey, or protein powders in general, as very strong nutrition choices. But that sounds about right; I think a little bit just turns into sugar, due to labelling tricks, or due to it being in fine powder form, or something. I don’t know. Dr. Ekberg on Youtube doesn’t like it; says it’s insulinogenic, if I remember.
Perhaps break it up into two feedings.
As long as it doesn’t mess with your digestion and you don’t have any intolerances, you can have as much as you like. That said, it’s a good idea to try and get at least half of your protein from foods when possible. But at the end of the day, taking more protein supplements is better than under-consuming protein.
