I use to practice 6-7 day dry fasts then eat 5-7 days then do another 6-7 day fast. For almost a year straight. Maybe sometimes the rest was extended 10 days. If you eat only hydrated foods of fruits and vegetables you can do them pretty frequently as much as you want after you break in the first dry fast.

Answer

Hard dry fast for one or two weeks about twice a year for medical benefits of autophagy. Soft-er (no showers or brushing, but I will wash hands as needed) dry fasting for acute medical issues like getting the flu or something. The latter goes on as long as I need to cure what ails, but it’s typically three days at most, two is more typical.

I’d fast more generally but I am quite lean now and my metabolism seem to prefer that so I have to plan and actively “bulk,” for the bi-annual big fasts.

August Dunning says that, once you hit the 5 day mark, you’ve activated your stem cells to a significant degree. You don’t want to exhaust or overextend those, so you want to give them plenty of time to regenerate in between fasts of that length. I think he advises at least 3 months? Maybe it was 6? Can’t remember. But if the fast is less than 5 days, it doesn’t matter so much.
