How soon after surgery can you resume IF?

I plan to ask my doctor! Just wondering how soon after a major surgery can I restart IF? I hate knowing that I’m likely gaining weight while recovering but I know my body needs extra care right now. I can return to most activities at 6 weeks, should I wait that long? TIA!

Answer

Probably sooner than you think.

Even starting with a 12:12 could be helpful to you. Just be mindful of your calories (and any special diet you may be on) and make sure you can function throughout the day on your diet/calories.

And of course take all medications as prescribed, even if you have to take them with food.

I had Achilles surgery, and my Dr was cool with IF immediately. I’m glad you’re asking your Dr; I’d guess recovering from major surgery may place more demands on your body.

Best of luck with your surgery!

Answer

I think listen to your body, no need to put it under more stress, and start easy, like 12:12 as already mentioned.

If you’ve got a lot of healing to do, give it time. If not, and it’s a case of limiting activity to avoid doing damage, you could probably start IF fairly soon.
