How to break a 3 DAY FAST???

I decided to start the new year with the toughest fast I done yet, 72 hours.

I’d like to break the fast with a homemade chipotle bowl (chicken, rice, beans, corn, broccoli). My other option is a fruit/spinach/protein smoothie. Are either ok or should I start off with something simpler? Thanks

Answer

Please do not break a 3 day fast with a burrito bowl unless your will and health insurance are perfectly settled. Your body cannot handle a heavy meal just yet. Take it slow. Start with bone broth and then move on to the smoothie.

Hey OP, I broke my 72hour fast a couple of hours ago. I was also guided by a wellness coach and did a lot of reading into how to break the fast. Here’s what I did:

  1. Easily digestible fats. Half an avocado with salt, dash of extra virgin olive oil, plus light sprinkle of dukkah - woah, I think I’ve found my new favourite treat food! The taste combo is out of this world.

  2. Probiotics/fermented goodness to kick-start guthealth. After 30mins, a cup of home-made fermented red cabbage and a small can of kombucha.Sauerkraut, miso soup, or kimchi are also widely recommended.

  3. Easily digestible protein. After another 30mins, 100g high-protein plain yoghurt with a teaspoon of LSA and chia seeds.

High quality bone broth soup is also widely recommended as it contains good amount of minerals and protein than can be readily absorbed by the body. Easily digestible by the gut.

I barely felt hungry between and after my meals. Good luck!

Are you just starting intermittent fasting or you’ve done this for some time and felt the need to challenge yourself? It’s essential because, if you are just starting practicing it, you should start with a simpler fasting method, as 3 days can be harmful.
