How to break a 3 day fast when a salty/starchy meal is unavoidable?

I’ve got a very rigid commitment that I have to attend, consisting of a dinner at a Japanese restaurant, whose cuisine is not exactly known for being low salt or low carb

And as I have read on several posts about breaking a long fast, I see that carbs and salt are major concerns regarding their potential metabolic impact in this situation.

So I would like to know if there would be a way to lessen this issue by breaking the fast a bit before the meal with some sort of snack. And those who have experienced breaking a 3 day fast, did encounter any issues with this? Or maybe it’s more relevant in longer fasts?

Thanks on advance, all opinions are appreciated

For a 3 day you don’t have to worry, except for maybe needing to take a few trips to the toilet.

I’ve been doing 3 day fasts weekly for nearly two months and I never take much care with how I break it in terms of volume or salt content (I’m doing low carb so can’t speak as much to starch).

Answer

Break your fast with a high sulfur food like pumpkin seeds, or tuna, or avocado. That will help prevent you from having “rocket me to the moon” diarrhea.

That being said, the type of extended fast where you have to be concerned about “refeeding syndrome” is quite a bit longer than 3. You can relax. :)
