How to IF when nighttime meds need to be taken with food?

I started intermittent fasting about a month ago, but I’m really struggling with a medicine I need to take at night with food. It makes me REALLY sleepy but despite that I switched to taking it at 5pm when my fasting starts. This hasn’t been working well, I’ve missed evening zooms, meetings, stopped going to my workout classes and hanging out with friends because I’m so tired. So last night I switched to before bed again and this time I only ate one grape with it (I get really sick if I don’t have something in my belly). I chose a grape because it’s low in calories but am I no longer fasting correctly because of this one grape? I’m hoping because it’s very watery it is ok but I’m worried IF isn’t for me if I can’t find a solution.

Answer

Eat something small, with just fat and protein. This will keep your insulin from spiking too much before bed. Maybe a single egg, or a few bites or chicken with some butter or cheese. It’s obviously not true fasting, but you’ll still get a lot of the benefits without harming your medication schedule.
