How to justify fasting while on a college meal plan?

Over the summer I began fasting to lose weight and get in shape for my ice hockey season. It worked great. During the season, I consistently went with OMAD, and it worked great. Now, the season is over, and honestly, I have no big reason to continue fasting, until May. That is when training camp begins, and the following 3 months is grind time to get into peak shape again.

Another major reason to not fast right now is because of my college meal plan. With my scholarship, I am paying $3k a semester for an all access plan, which includes unlimited dining hall visits, and what is essentially a daily $25 voucher to use on specialty dining (like Chick-Fil-A, Denny’s, etc).

This is one of the only times in my life where I have no need to diet and stay in shape. So for the next 2 months, how can I justify fasting, essentially wasting $2k worth of the meal plan, when I am not training for anything? Or should I let myself splurge and not worry about fasting for this time?

Thanks

You’re looking at up front costs. Mental time travel yourself several months into a future where you’ve spent too much time at Chick-Fil-A and ask yourself how you feel, then choose the other path. Good luck

Well, do you want to fast or not? Some people like to keep it up even when not actively trying to lose weight because they feel better doing it and it has other benefits. In any case, eating fast food daily isn’t going to do your health any favours.

I don’t agree with giving all the food away or just continue fasting like you do now. That’s a lot of money to throw away and it’s yours. Since you’ve already done OMAD, maybe go to bigger eating windows like 20:4 or 16:8. Or ADF. Eat one day and not the next and then repeat. With the last two you’d be able to enjoy multiple meals too. And it’s not wrong to have a day a week or something where you’re not strict with yourself. I Love fasting. I do OMAD automatically even bc my body adapted to it. But if I knew I was gonna die next month I wouldn’t fast. Not. At. All.

Hope u find a solution & good luck next season in advance!

Answer

It really depends on your physiological goals: will fasting help you reach them?

If you’re unable to reduce your meal plan to a cheaper one, I will say this: that is a “sunk cost.” Meaning no matter what, you’re paying that amount toward meals, whether you fast or not. Don’t let that be the reason you don’t fast. It’s like when someone binge eats because there just happens to be 5 boxes of mac and cheese in the pantry and 3 pints of ice cream in the freezer. Those have already been purchased, whether you eat them or not has no impact on the cost or on their existence.
