How to keep on track at weekends

Hi everyone,

I’m currently doing 20:4 on weekdays without any issues but when it comes to the weekend my mental strength takes a hit, I’ll maybe do a 16:8 or throw it in all together for a Sunday breakfast and lunch with the wife.

Do any of you more experienced winners have any tips on sticking to the plan? I know it’s physiological but any tips to help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You’ve got to live your life. Firstly, you’re doing great on the weekdays. Shorter fasts on the weekend to enjoy time with your wife is fine! As is taking Sunday off altogether. Fasting is a lifestyle and you’ve got to find what works for you so you can live and enjoy your life - and wife.

I’m retired so every day is weekend. That said perhaps you want to try planning your weekends as shorter fasts and that way you and the wife can do a Saturday lunch and a Sunday breakfast without any guilt feelings or ending up overdoing it. Just a thought.

My personal approach is to sort of split the difference on the weekends. If I can hold to a schedule, even a relaxed one, great, but otherwise I don’t worry too much about timing. However in order to still keep it going I do try to eat roughly the same, which for me on the weekends is a lighter meal, a heavier meal, and avoiding almost all snacking.

I find this works well enough to keep my progress going and have enough flexibility for brunch and such.

My best advice is to keep every day the same. Get rid of the idea that weekends are different. It may be hard but doing the same thing day in and day out builds a lasting lifestyle change via consistency. It’s a slippery slope allow certain coping strategies just for the weekend. Most people don’t have that kind of self control.
