Antioxidants are a key ingredient in our body’s defense mechanisms to combat free radicals and oxidative stress, but from my very limited knowledge on the subject and just going off what I read on the old internet, too many can have adverse effects and actually contribute to oxidative stress. I’ve seen the means of measuring is in ORAC units, but beyond that it seems difficult to know just what the right amount might be for a person.
Wait, anti-oxidants can cause oxidative stress?? Isn’t that like the opposite of the definition of ANTI-oxidant??
I’ve never seen any arbitrary number on recommended anti-oxidants. Instead, every health organization recommends to eat FOOD that has anti-oxidants in them:
Fruits/vegetables/nuts/seeds/whole grains/legumes/mushrooms
