How to read nutritional value?

Hi all! I was wondering how to read nutritional value on certain foods, such as oats, rice, etc. It is indicated the amounts of nutrients for a certain quantity but not wether that quantity has been cooked using package instruction or not. In other words, if it says 100g of oats is that much kcal and such, is it 100g as is or 100g cooked like package directions? I am in Canada if that changes anything.

Thanks for you help and lovely day to you all :)

Answer

If a label doesn’t say “As Prepared”, then you can assume it’s “As Packaged”. So 100g dry, in this case.

“As Prepared” refers to preparation following the package instructions. This is also why many cereal labels will also include a column with something like “Prepared with __ cups/mls skim milk”

Answer

It would be as is, unless otherwise stated.

If you add water to 100 grams of oats and then cook it, you will still have 100 grams of oats. Even if the net weight of the cooked portion has increased due to water weight.
