I heard ghrelin levels are higher after periods of dieting. How can people reduce the high levels of ghrelin after a diet?
I would imagine fiber supplementation but I’m not sure. I just heard someone talking about ghrelin. I believe it was Andrew Huberman. His podcast is fantastic.
I’m talking full on psyllium husks and lots of water.
They talk a lot about getting hormones to return to normal after a cut on the StrongerbyScience podcast. My takeaway was that you have to wait or use a caloric surplus to add some fat back to speed things up. Why are you concerned with ghrelin?
Making sure that if you’re in a calorie deficit that you’re eating plenty of protein while having a solid exercise routine to help body composition. You want to make sure you’re burning fat and not muscle… fat storage affects ghrelin. During a deficit .8-1g of protein/lb of body weight is recommended. Also making sure to drink plenty of water and getting enough sleep at night. Sleep is a huge factor in ghrelin/insulin so aiming for around 8 hours will be huge. And avoiding processed foods and sugar.
