How to test for deficiencies before you do an extended fast?

I absolutely cannot fast for more than a day without feeling weak, tired and shaky, even with electrolytes. I suspect I may be deficient in something, but the blood tests I can get from my GP only test for a select few biomarkers like vitamin D3, B12, electrolytes, etc.

Is there any way to check all my vitamins and minerals, and maybe even hormones too?

Thanks in advance

Answer

That is incorrect; you can ask your GP to order all sorts of bloodwork. They are not the ones that actually do it so they are only limited by what the lab can do.

What you probably want is a Comprehensive metabolic panel. Learn what the different blood panels are so you know what you want to ask for. All your GP needs to know is that you want a baseline before you diet.

Though your GP is the easiest way to make sure your plan pays whatever it is supposed to pay there are companies from which you can just pay out of pocket to have the blood work done.

Answer

A Comprehensive metabolic panel won’t mean much to you if you already know you’re functioning well. If you’re curious about vitamin and mineral levels, you could look at your lifestyle and see what you might be deficient in. I live in a dark, damp place so I would be curious about my vitamin D and iron levels. If there’s specific symptoms you have that make you want to get tested, that makes sense to me. And depending on where you live it might be more expensive then you’re thinking. The vague list you gave can run you about $1,000 in the USA.
