I’ve been doing the 16:8 IF for about 2 months and eating 2 meals a day. So far I’m doing very well with it. My late night cravings/hunger are backing off too.
I’d like to try fasting for 24hrs maybe once a week. What are your thoughts on how to lead myself up to it? I’m worried if I don’t ease myself into it I’ll end up binge eating.
I have an unhealthy relationship with food because growing up I hardly ever got to eat due to my drug addict parents. As an adult anytime I made food or ate out I would eat non stop until my stomach hurt so bad.
Thanks to my husband and IF I’m now able to control myself and learn when I am full. But it’s not something that comes natural for me.
So what’s your alls tips/opinions? Thanks so much!
I’ve recently started doing a 24 hour fast once a week on Monday to put calories in the bank for the weekend. I encourage you to try a breakfast to breakfast 24 hour fast. I like that setup because I don’t have to skip my morning coffee. My relationship and history with food is very similar to yours. I’ve found that the once a week fast really helps reduce my overall appetite and cravings. I finally feel like I have more control over food than it has over me.
I tend to leave my 24 hr fasts for days that I know I’ll be too busy to even think about food. Days full of errands or maybe just relaxed Sundays where I can wake up a bit later, go for a long walk around town, visit galleries, etc and then have dinner.
Like some others have mentioned, starting slow would get you into it. Extend your hours slowly and then try 24 hours once a week. I like doing dinner to dinner because when I’m busy during the day when I’m working or doing stuff it helps me keep my mind off food and because there is no time to think about food! Haha. I also feel the most satisfied eating dinner! Helps any cravings I may get before bed. Good luck! :)
You could work your way up to 24 hours. Extend your fast every day by an hour or 2 and eventually you’ll be at 24 hours. I’ve done it a couple times and it’s hard but doable- just keep busy in the last few hours to try not to think about food lol. Good luck
