I am 48 hours in on a 10-day water fast

Hi all,

I impulsively jumped into a 10-day fast (first-time doing any kind of fasting!) 2 days ago. I am now 48 hours in with 0-calorie intake. I am still getting waves of hunger/urge to eat and my mouth tastes much better than the first day. I am taking my electrolytes since day 2 morning.

I have a couple of issues,

Will it get better soon? Should I expect any other worse symptoms? Thanks in advance!

Answer

Headaches could be due to a few reasons:

Sugar withdrawals

Not enough salt (I think)

Caffeine withdrawals

Obviously for sugar and Caffeine it depends on if you normally consumed those two. But yeah I got headaches on my first time too! And I usually don’t poop a lot when I’m fasting. If you feel like you should you could try drinking some black coffee.

I’m not sure if the symptoms will get better for you on this particular fast, but I stopped getting headaches after my second fast. Other symptoms you should expect are fatigue. However if you supplement with the proper amount of electrolytes then that should hopefully help

I always advise people to ease in to it. You mentioned that you haven’t gone through any type of fasting before. Jumping straight into a 10-day fast is not recommended. In fact, you may want to eat low carb for a few weeks before starting a fast to make things easier.

I also recommend a purge (colon cleanse) before starting a fast, just like the ancient Greeks did it, to prevent toxins from old fecal matter that’s still retained in your body, from reabsorbing into your bloodstream.

It is absolutely fine if you need to break your fast, 2 days for a first try is amazing, and you should be proud of yourself. Make sure you break your fast with unprocessed nutritious foods in small quantities at first.
