Is it true that letting it soak in boiling hot water reduces it’s calories?
By soaking before cooking you kind of unlock nutrients ! Eating it straight away will improve and increase digestion rate. (Fuks with blood sugar) however if you let them cool off and consume them in chilled form (resistant starch form) they will no spike blood sugars and they will also feed beneficial gut bacteria!
Maybe if you threw the soaking water away it would lose a few calories. But I think it would also be less nutritious.
Oatmeal is an important part of my breakfast. I never add sugars other than fresh fruit. After it’s cooked i I add walnuts and sometimes a little olive oil. I really enjoy.
NO. But it is true that cooked versus muesli style changes the way your body reacts. If I eat muesli (raw oats with fruit and nuts Red Mill brand) my glucose does NOT spike. If I eat cooked oatmeAL WITH SKIM MILK OR OAT MILK OR PLAIN? mY GLUCOSE GOES THRU THE ROOF.
I do think that when you soak your oats the calories are more absorbed by your body. If you eat the oats raw for example your digestive system may need to work harder (burn calories) to get all the energy and nutrients… Just my two cents…
Calories are fixed.
Oatmeal has high calories but low glycemic index, which means these calories are slowly absorbed.
When they’re in water, they absorb water, inflate, helping to provide a higher sensation of being full earlier, which tends to reduce risk duce your capacity to eat more, and then you eat less calories in the end.
If you boil oatmeal or any other foods or vegetables it certainly loses its nutriets, which will be around 25%. Instead you can microwave them, which can basically retain some more nutrients better. Because the cooking time in microwave is less. While boiling it will lose nutrients. You can cook it at lower heat for short length of time, which can helps retain some more nutrients.
